At this price the worthwhile spend is on the frame, the fork and the groupset. Everything cosmetic is optional. The line items that tell you whether a bike is good value are the groupset tier and whether the frame is a platform worth upgrading around.
What to check
Why it matters at this price
Groupset tier
A named groupset with a known level beats an unnamed one
Fork
Carbon where possible — it is the cheapest comfort on a road bike
Number of sizes
A wide size run means you can get the fit right
Wheel and tyre spec
Consumable, but tells you the build quality
Why factory-direct changes the maths
A road bike that retails for US$900 typically has a distributor and a shop each taking a share between the factory and the buyer. Buying from the manufacturer removes that layer, so the same budget reaches the frame and components instead. It also means that when you ask a question about a specification, you are asking the people who assembled the bike.
Frequently asked questions
Are sub-US$1,000 road bikes worth buying?
Yes. The differences at this price are in weight and shifting refinement, not in whether the bike is usable. A well-specified bike under US$1,000 will handle commuting, club rides and long solo days.
Shimano or SRAM?
Both are offered. Choose whichever groupset your local shop stocks parts for and you know how to adjust — that is a more practical consideration than brand preference.
Can I put wider tyres on a road bike?
Some models have more clearance than others. Tell us the tyre width you want and we will confirm clearance for the specific frame before you order.
Can I order these in bulk for a shop?
Yes. Wholesale, bulk and OEM/ODM orders are supported from our own production line.
